I feel this in my bones.
If I don’t enjoy what I’m doing, or who I’m doing it with, work feels like hard work.
I have been in the same industry for almost 30 years. There have been seasons that were miserable!! and seasons that were so awesome I think back to them often and wish I could go back and realize in those moments how really special it was. I feel very fortunate to have had that time. I don’t think everyone does. I’ve worked for good companies since then, but nothing that has felt as “at home” as it did back then. Maybe it was the leader, maybe it was the coworkers, maybe it was me. I don’t know but it was really beautiful.
So, what about when you don’t have fun at your job, or you don’t like your coworkers? What do you? We all have to eat and so sometimes, just leaving isn’t an option. Sometimes, we just have to push through.
In those seasons where I worked for companies that were not a good fit for me, I was the most creative at home. I painted more. I wrote more. It’s like my soul was thirsty and there was no water the majority of my day, so in my free time, I guzzled fun.
What do you do? How do you get through working when it’s no fun?
